A member asked:

Can the infection just be created on its own, between two individuals that don't have it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possibly: That's a little difficult to answer but if someone has been exposed to someone who is not infected (no signs of active infection) so viral shedding of herpes simplex that person can become infected.
