Plasma Magnesium: For screening purposes and follow up after treatment of magnesium defeciency, plasma magnesium is the preferred test.For urine magnesium level you have to collect 24 hour urine to do the test.Sometimes we order 24 hour urine if the plasma level is low to assess the loss of magnesium in urine.
