Toe Bruised: It is possible you fractured the toe and developed a hematoma or a collectin of blood under the skin. Peeling is from trauma to the skin is my guess.

Toe bruise: Having a bruise after an injury is common but continued pain after one month may not be. I'd recommend to off-load the area at this time until a physician sees it and get an x-ray.
