Cystitis: A positive urine culture for e coli usually means you have an infection of the lining of the bladder, a cystitis. That is what a "uti" is: a urinary tract infection. This can be serious, as it can spread up the ureters to the kidneys (pyelonephritis) and eventually if not treated cause kidney failure. It can also spread to the blood which can be fatal. See a doctor asap and get treated.
