Yes: Yes. Chronic use of barbiturates can affect memory and thinking abilities. It can also result in behavioral and learning problems, particularly in children. Most of this is reversible once the medications have been stopped. In some cases, some of the side effects may continue for some time after the medication has been stopped because these drugs take a few weeks-months to be totally cleared.
