Always present: Montgomery glands are sebaceous or oily glands that surround the nipple and will often become more prominent on the areola surface in pregnancy. They are normal part of the breast.

No: Montgomery glands are always there. They are more prominent during pregnancy or when the areola (nipple) is stimulates. These glands produce a lubricant to protect the skin of the areola. They will be small raised bumps on the brown part of the nipple.
