Sepsis: Any type of infection in the skin or elsewhere can enter the bloodstream. An overwhelming infection in the blood is known as sepsis. Fever, low blood pressure, and high heart rate are some of the signs of sepsis. Untreated sepsis can result in death.

Yes: Methicillin resistant staph aureus (MRSA) can be deadly if the bacteria enters the blood stream. This very sticky bacteria can travel to the heart and destroy heart valves and heart muscle. Each skin infection increases the chance of this bacteria getting into the blood stream.
