A member asked:

Is it possible to suddenly get celiac or do u usually have it all ur life ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It is acquired: While there are genetic influences/predisposed populations this disorder is acquired at some point in your life. It is similar to self immune problems like arthritis where you develop antibodies that attack your tissues. In this case, some antibodies developed after exposure to wheat proteins (gluten & others) also attack your gut tissue. Often the point it starts is never clear.
