A member asked:

Was wondering how much swelling is fairly normal for a second degree sunburn?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Varies: This can be a serious burn so it is important that a health care professional look at it. While amounts of swelling can vary, by definition the second degree burn is one where the first layer of skin is burned through exposing the dermis. This is associated with blistering and swelling and can be a source of infection. In addition the size of the burn matter too so please see a doc to be safe.
