Most women...: Ovulate between cycle 12-14. In the average 28 day cycle the egg is produced around day 14. Sperm can live happily 48 hours in the vagina or the uterus so the most fertile time is day 12 to day 16. If your cycles are irregular then the day of ovulation can vary.

Yes: You can keep track of basal body temperature, some women have a drop of half a degree at ovulation. It's not a great method, but it's cheap. You can also use an ovulation predictor kit. I don't usually recommend brand name products, but in this case, clear blue easy is reliable and easy to interpret. It measures hormone surges, when you get a smiley face you typically ovulate 24-36 hours later.

Temperature: If you check your basal body temperature, that is the temperature when you wake up and before you get out of bed, every day, you will notice that it elevates 0.5 degrees f before onset of menses. The problem is this occurs after ovulation, so only helps you if your menses is very regular and you can then predict your next cycle and know you will be fertile the 2-3 days before the elevation starts.

Cycles: Cycle irregularity is a sign of lack of ovulation. Testing by your doctor can also show if you are not ovulating. Treatment to correct ovulation depends on the underlying cause.
