Not typical: Dairy allergy is most common in children. It is unusual for an adult to "suddenly" become allergic to dairy. Evaluation for food allergy should include a thorough history and physical and if appropriate skin test and / or blood testing.

Yes: Allergy to foods can develop at any time. Although it may seem to come on suddenly, it may have been preceded by milder symptoms that weren't recognized as allergy.
