Nothing is 100%: The pill has a very low failure rate compared with other methods of birth control. With perfect use, the pregnancy rate on the pill is about 1 per 100 women during the first year of use. This compares with about 18 pregnancies with condoms, 24 pregnancies with 'natural family planning' (cervical mucus check). The best is 0.5 per 100 with tubal ligation or iud.
