Vitamins: No supplements can entirely prevent the bad effects of excess alcohol consumption, but taking appropriate doses of vitamins, especially folate, (folic acid) thiamine, and B12 are important to avoid deficiencies of these essentials. Various problems, including anemia, peripheral neuropathy, and the brain disease called 'wernicke's disease' can result from deficiencies and are seen in some alcoholics.
