The names themselves tell the difference. A canker sore is an open sore (and painful). Wart are painless bumps. Canker sores are common and oral warts rare.

A canker sore is from too much acid in system, trauma to area, anxiety and stress. This is a reddish or white lesion that hurts and goes away in 4-5 days. It can be treated with OTC creams or solutions to decrease the pain. A wart on tongue is a Verruca vulgaris which is common, or a fibroma .An HPV wart can occur on tongue. Any wart should be examined and a possible biopsy taken or have it.
