Rheumatoid arthritis is an auto-immune disorder where a person makes antibodies that attack their own joints. The severity can vary widely from symptoms that are relatively mild and can be controlled with NSAIDs like ibuprofen to a very crippling condition that requires much stronger medications, like steroids (prednisone, for example). A rheumatologist would diagnose and treat this disorder.
