A member asked:

3 yr daughter had a uti. dr wants u/s of kidneys bc shes under 7 for anything that can predispose her to uti. what would that be? she had an u/a done of her entire abdomen 2x for stomach pain. would they have seen then what the dr is looking for now?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

In young children UTIs can be the product of any malformation or obstruction of the outflow tract. I have seen congenital duplication of the outflow tract, blockage of the ureters building back pressure on the kidneys and more. The doc sounds like someone who knows their stuff. Previous studies may have overlooked an issue or a new obstructive issue could have emerged.
