Excessive coughing can create inflammation within the airways and in the throat and likely can affect the tonsils, depending on the cough intensity. Coughing has many causes and sometimes different causes are happening at the same time. It often requires different treatments to get a bad cough under control-like medicines to treatment bronchospasm, post nasal drip, gastroesophageal reflux, etc.
