A member asked:

I had gotten a cold of sorts, then pink eye in 1eye, followed by another sore throat. i figured the pink eye was viral but i used antiobiotic eye drops anyway. i used it & the pus had stopped in a few hours. does this mean it was probably bacterial?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Bacterial conjunctivitis in rare in healthy adults, unless you are a contact lens user. The pus that you see is normal mucus the eye makes to hold on to aqueous tears. This is often seen in patients with dry eyes who do not drink sufficient fluids.
