PEP started within 24 hours is believed to be nearly 100% effective. You could ask your partner to be tested for HIV: if negative, you will know you were not at risk and could safely stop PEP. (A problem with PEP that many people forget that if it doesn't work, it prolongs the time to conclusive testing. Instead of knowing you're OK after 6 weeks, it takes up to 3 months.)
