Usually with PMR, it does not take a large dose of steroids to get relief. Prednisone in a dose of about 10mg a day or so is typically enough to get relief. So, if the back pain is not being relieved with a relatively low dose of steroids, it may be due to something else. You may need to go back to your doctor and have the back pain re-evaluated to see if there is an alternate diagnosis.
