SSRI: 15 to 20% of patients with heart disease and s/p heart surgery develop major depression. It may worse the condition even cause a heart attack. Combination of psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy is best. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (ssri) are safe for heart patients. Sertraline and citalopram are well study. Check the internet for coping techniques and follow with a physician.
