Once genital warts are cleared up, within a few months the underlying HPV infection usually is not transmissible to partners. It isn't clear whether HPV vaccine (Gardasil) makes this even less likely. Initial data suggested the vaccine has no effect on previously acquired HPV, but recent research suggests it may reduce the frequency of reactivation of the virus and transmission risk.
