A member asked:

I am getting married 4 months more, and started taking 5mg of folic acid a day. is this enough? i am also taking vit d supplements. i have polycystic ovaries in ultrasound but otherwise normal regular periods and normal hormonal blood work?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

400 - 800 micrograms of folic acid is usually recommended for women who are trying to become pregnant. 5 mg as you stated is 5000 micrograms, is higher than the usual dose. Sometimes, doctors will prescribe a higher dose of folic acid in certain medical situations - I would check with your doctor to see if this high dose is necessary for you.
