Implantation bleeding is as a result of implantation of a fertilized egg. It is different from a period which is shedding of the endometrium because there is no embryo to take advantage of the prepared endometrium. The implantation bleeding is much shorter and indicates the beginning of a pregnancy.

Bleeding can sometimes occur in early pregnancy and might sometimes be confused with a period. Characterizing it as "implantation bleeding" is misleading, probably inaccurate, and suggests it is normal, which it is not. The bleeding significantly raises the risk of miscarriage. If you think you could be pregnant, do a home test. They are readily available and accurate.
