Per the CDC, unless you are in the middle of your menstrual cycle, then you are not protected from pregnancy for up to 7 days after insertion of Nexplanon. So if you are not on your cycle, then I would assume that you are not protected from pregnancy. I would advise you to discuss emergency contraception with a doctor, which can significantly reduce risk of pregnancy 48hr after intercourse.

Doom is unlikely. Assuming you were not past due for the replacement where your previous implant had become ineffective, then you should have no gap in protection. The qualifier is that no method is 100% effective, though Nexplanon is better than most.
