hCG is one screening test in addition to other blood tests and ultrasound to evaluate for Down Syndrome. The desire to screen for this chromosomal abnormality is an important, individualized conversation between you, your partner, and OB. Not all tests are perfect, and if the tests indicate a high risk, further possible invasive tests can confirm.
