Unusual: To get the true flu often is unusual, but getting a variety of upper respiratory colds isn't. Some people "always have it go to their chest and leave a cough", that often means they have asthma. You should get evaluated for asthma to see if that is your problem, it needs to be treated if it is. Go to your doctor to be evaluated, or to an allergist for further evaluation.

Etiology?: Do you know why you get flu "quite often?" are you sure it is "flu" and not allergy, perhaps? The first thing you need is to find out precisely what is causing this "flu" and to treat that so that the cough that occurs afterwards will be prevented. For example, if you are getting recurrent infections, see your doctor to determine why you are so prone to infections. You need to see your doctor.
