If your periods are "regular" (24-32 days apart) the bleeding in "mid-cycle" may represent twin ovulation, which allows a higher estrogen level to drop suddenly, leading to withdrawal bleeding. At age "43" higher FSH levels (stimulating follicles) may result in more than one egg released. See you GYN physician, and ask about low dose oral bcp's which stop ovarian hormone activity.
