Do growth spurts happen on their own or can you trigger a growth spurt? and how much do boys usually on average grow during their growth spurts?

The expected yearly male linear growth after ten is about 2.5 inches/yr with an expected peak during a growth spirt of around 5-6 inches. If a kid slows to one inch or less/year it usually signals the end is near.
