Erection of the penis is in simple terms caused by engorgement of the venous plexus and associated superfluous veins will be visible that’s what is being noticed by you. It is not harmful by itself and better be left alone. It can be treated as varicose veins if you are disturbed by its presence, it is not necessary in my personal opinion. Hope it helps.
