Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD. There is insufficient information to draw any conclusions as there are many causes of unusual bleeding, including age-related hormone fluctuations, pregnancy, and various growths and tumors. If your periods have been previously regular and normal, you are not pregnant, and there are no associated symptoms like fever or pain, then it is OK to monitor thru another cycle or 2 before being seen.
