A member asked:

How would a tympanoplasty affect someone with an active trigeminal neuralgia flare? the most severe of it seems to have peeked 2 weeks ago and the surgery is on the 2/3. it's hard getting answers from my drs because they keep bouncing me between them?

I assume you'll have general anesthesia for the procedure & this doesn't directly affect the 5th cranial nerve. The reassurance I'd like from your neurologist is whether ear surgery can precipitate episodes of trigeminal neuralgia and what preventative steps, if any, could be taken preop. Collaborate with surgeon. Facial manipulation during the procedure is my main concern as a cause of a flareup.
