A member asked:

I dont understand how you can develop a disseminated gonococcal infection, if gonorhea doesnt spread to the blood. can anyone help?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Gonorrhea is usually an infection localized to surface tissues in the genital tract in both genders. However, in RARE occasions it can spread in the blood. Manifestations such as joint infections, multiple joint pain, inflamed ligaments, skin lesions, bacteremia, or, on rare occasions, endocarditis or meningitis can occur.
