Ethanol and tramadol is not a recommended combination. If you are taking tramadol for certain symptoms, adding alcohol is unlikely to address the symptoms. They are additive in the effects on reaction time, thus, if driving is a consideration, ethanol is out.

Tramadol is a risky drug for senior citizens and due to its metabolism to opioids, and tendency to serotonin syndrome, besides the adjunctive interactions with alcohol and other drugs, it is best avoided in most cases. Would NOT use alcohol with Tramadol under any circumstances. Find an alternative medication.
