A member asked:

Hi im a little confused. my wife is hpv vaccinated and i keep getting told she will test positive for antibodies. what does that mean. does that mean if they run a hpv test it will be positive because she is vaccinated. she got the quad vaccine?

Quad vaccine contains: HPV types 6, 11, 16 and 18. It would depend on the test done. If her blood is tested for antibodies to these strains, it will be positive. If her tissue or a lesion is tested for HPV nucleic acids, it will be negative. If she does not have genital warts, quit obsessing about it.

The point of a vaccine is to cause the production of antibodies that will prevent an infection, so if the vaccine was successful your wife would have antibodies. This is a different test than the tests for HPV infections, and the vaccine will NOT cause those tests to be positive. The quad vaccine provides protection only from the most common HPV strains.
