As your cycle begins your estrogen levels start to rise and cause a mucus discharge from the cervix (which enhances sperm survival prior to ovulation). The amount of discharge can vary considerably between women. Your periods are apparently light (not a bad thing) and the brown color is from old blood. All of this is normal.
