Chlamydia actually is rare in the throat, and when present causes no sore throat or other symptoms, and rarely is transmitted to partners by oral sex and has never been shown to be transmitted by kissing. The reasons are not clear -- research is needed. But it appears that many positive throat swabs are detecting only chlamydia DNA/RNA, and that living chlamydia is absent.
