A member asked:

I have osteopenia plus migraine with aura and need contraception. i can't take the combined pill (migraine) and know i should avoid depo provera due to bone density issues. but is the progesterone only pill safe for osteopenia if taken long term? iud?

The "progesterone only" form of oral birth control, or via "depo-progesterone shots every three months" will not significantly add to your osteopenia. This type of birth control may lead to very irregular ovulation and longer intervals between menstrual events, and is not "100%" protective of pregnancy.
