Girlfriend started period on friday around mid-day, took rigevidon pill wednesday at 1am, seeing as how this is less than 5 full days, are we protected instantly from pregnancy? thanks?

I assume she is just starting the pill. The instructions to start on the 5th day of the cycle, while not wrong, is not the best approach and my recommendation would have been to start the pill on the first day of her period. While you will have some protection this cycle it will be more reliable in later cycles but will never be 100%. I suggest backup contraception this first cycle.
