Generally, screening mammograms are not started before age 40. In younger women they are difficult to read and usefulness is limited. If there is a family history (mother or sister) of breast cancer before age 50 then you can start at an age 10 years prior to their diagnosis. None of this applies if there is a palpable lump or proven genetic risk factors.

Mammograms are commonly used to screen for early breast Cancer. Annual mammograms are recommended once you reach an age of 40 year or if you feel a lump in your breast at any age. Since you are only 31 year old, you may not need a repeat mammogram right now unless you or your doctor feel a lump in your breast.
