A change in the type of combined oral contraceptive pills started at the day after seven "placebo days" end should not diminish contraceptive effectiveness. If the "change" is to a progestin only oral contraceptive, you may experience menstrual irregularities, and if pregnancy is possible, get a serum HCG test 5 days or so after your next anticipated menstruation.
