Not necessarily.: Birth control pills are usually started with the onset of menses. You may start on the closest sunday or on the first day of bleeding. If you start with your menses then you are protected from pregnancy after 7 days of continuous use. You may start your pills in the middle of a cycle but you may have irregular bleeding and you should use back up contraception for the first pack of pills.
