Oral "bcp's" which are "combination" types, have both a progestin and estrogen component, and stopping the "active" pills will cause spotting from withdrawal of the hormonal content. Best is to wait at this point until you have another menstrual cycle, and use other types of contraception until that occurs. The "spotting " should stop in a couple days.
