As a woman's eggs grow older, they require more stimulation for ovulation, and this comes from higher levels of estrogen made in the ovaries. High levels of estrogen stimulation also the lining of the uterus (endometrium) , which when estrogen drops suddenly just prior to menstruation, there is heavier bleeding. Ask you GYN physician about low dose oral bcp's, which stop ovarian estrogen.
