Taking low dose oral bcp's on a punctual basis (active pills taken w/in the hour of the prior day's active pill) is close to 96-98% reliable for contraception. If one waits longer than seven days in the "placebo" week, ovulation may occur, and pregnancy is possible. If the bleeding persists past the current seven day of placebo pills, obtain a serum HCG test to be certain about pregnancy.
