A member asked:

Is it safe to start the pill (rigevidon) the day before ovulation? is it also safe to have started the pill in late jan, stop after 5 weeks, and resume now for a month, stop in june and resume for july? not sexually active outside when stopping?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Intermittent use of oral bcp's is not an effective use for contraception, since ovulation can still occur. If the oral bcp's are started within a few days of the start of menstruation, and taken punctually , within the hour of the prior day's active pill, oral bcp provides over 95% effective contraception.
