Paint fumes have volatile organic oils and materials in them some of which are likely carcinogenic. It is not advisable to purposefully inhale such fumes. You should increase the ventilation in rooms which are freshly painted to dissipate the odor. I do not know about impacts on height.

You get the most from this site when your question is preceded by detailed background information. What type of paint ? How long is the exposure ? Most common latex paints uses in homes will transiently off-gas a non-toxic smell. Industrial Oil based paints off-gas fumes that can be toxic. Short exposures by either are unlikely to effect someone's growth.
