A member asked:

What causes anal itching?

2 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Anal itching can represent pin worms, but it can also represent an inflammation in the area from fungus. An unusual but important cause is group A streptococcal infection, which usually shows up with irritation, small bumps and moist skin. It can also represent a response to irritation from diarrhea, food allergies, lactose intolerance and a healing anal fissure.

I agree with the above but in addition to those mentioned proper cleansing of the rectal area is imperative. Unfortunately, many women do not cleanse themselves properly after urinating , they are wiping from back to front and then wonder why they develop frequent UT Infections. Simple teaching can prevent many infections.
