A member asked:

1 month postpartum can i take birth control at anytime? or do i wait until my period? can't it take up to 6 months

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Either way: Most doctors recommend waiting for 6 weeks after delivery to start estrogen-containing ocps due to the increased risk of blood clotting. You could start the pill at 4 weeks after delivery, or wait until your period starts. Waiting until the period starts to start the ocp will help to decrease the irregular bleeding that can occur when starting on the pill, but also delay when it is effective.
