A member asked:

My doc prescribed antibiotics for my bronchitis without confirming whether it was bacterial or viral. i had started to take the antibiotics but later realized i really should have pushed back on that recommendation. should i continue to take them?

Most bronchitis starts as a viral process and triggers excess mucus flow that may become secondarily infected with bacteria. Some heal without the antibiotic assist some will progress to frank pneumonia. Abx are often given if the doc decides you are likely to do the 2nd. Either you trust your docs motives or you don't. If not, find a new one. Self diagnosis & treatment can have poor outcomes.
